St Andrew’s Church

St Andrew’s Church is a Grade 1 listed building with patronage dating back to the 13th Century.  It was built in the 15th Century, with additions in the 17th Century.  The church contains many interesting features including the so-called "Bible of Alwington", the name given to the story-telling carvings on the ends of the pews, the altar piece and other wooden elements inside the church.

Churches of similar style and age can be found in neighbouring parishes, including Parkham and Buckland Brewer.

St Andrew’s Church today is part of the Hartland Coast Mission Community and details of the community team, churchwardens, the church’s safeguarding policy and dates of services can be found on its website (currently being updated) - click here: Hartland Coast Parishes

The graveyard with lovely views to the south contains more than 170 graves including one Commonwealth War Grave. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission lists four war dead but only one, that of Alfred Foster Statham, has the classic white headstone.  The other three are commemorated on private memorials in the graveyard.
